Hair Fall

Is Hair Fall natural? When should one treat Hair Fall/ Alopecia?

Hair falling is a natural phenomenon, a certain amount of hair falling per day is normal. Medically speaking, for an adult, about 40 to 80 hair falling a day is considered within a normal range. It simply means that one may not consider getting treated for it if this is the case. However, it is also important that if one observes sudden increase of hair falling even within the normal range, it calls for medical attention and evaluation. Again, if one has hair falling within normal range but if they fall from the roots amounting to a definite reduction in the quantum of the total hair on the scalp, it calls for appropriate treatment. In any case, consistent hair falling over 80 a day and/or reduced hair quantum needs to be evaluated for treatment. Localized hair falling, leading to even a tiny hairless spot (alopecia) should always be studied and treated.

What are the causes of Hair falling?

There may be one or multiple factors responsible leading to hair falling, which may be summarized as under:

  • Local factors:  These include skin disorders (fungus, eczema, psoriasis), exposure to toxins (chemical based products), carelessness (infrequent headwash, exposure to sun)
  • General factors: Nutritional deficiency, vitamin deficiencies, hormonal variations such as child birth or menopause, and also after acute-ailments such as typhoid or those medicine and drug induced all fall under this category
  • Psychological factors: The mind plays a vital role in maintaining the health in general and the developing a wide range of disorders, such as hair falling in particular. In my experience, any and every emotion, which was experienced intensely, may cause a constitutional disorder affecting the physiological functioning of the hair growth. In a nutshell, the personality type plays a greater role in most cases of hair falling and that should form in turn, the major criterion to decide the correct line of treatment for hair falling.

How can Homeopathy help in treating hair falling?

After analysis, a homeopathic remedy befitting the particular patient suffering from hair falling is administered. The remedy for every patient with hair falling may be different depending on the cause of hair falling, and his or her mental and physical build up. Depending on the nature of causes in a given case of hair falling, the treatment is required for 4 to 8 months or more as hair growth is a slow process. Improvements, however, show in a span of about a month or so. Since homeopathy does not believe in local applications, no special oils, shampoos, etc are advocated.
